The government of India is reportedly planning to auction
4,500 MW wind projects in the next four months to push the wind capacity
addition in the country.
ET citing a source aware of the development reports that an
additional bid of 1500 MW wind project will be rolled out in October. Two more
wind bids of same capacity will be rolled out in December this year and
February next year.
The government is looking to speed up the capacity
installation in wind projects with this auction, the auctions will be conducted
by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
Speaking to the publication the source said “The NIT (notice inviting tender) will be issued now (for
the October bid), so that we don’t lose much time, and then just as the old
bids are finalized, we will ask for the reverse auctions.”
In October this year the wind auctions witnessed record
low wind tariffs at Rs. 2.64 per unit. No capacity addition in the wind sector
might have also resulted in the low tariffs.
If the prices of equipments goes up, governmet will hold back the
auctions. The upcoming wind power auctions will also see an
enhancement in the bid size for developers. the developers may be allowed
to bid for up to 400 MW projects.
The government is expecting tariffs for both wind and solar
power to go down further with more new technologies. However, homegrown solar and wind equipment manufactureres are still unhappy with the government and couldn't contribute of government's Make in India intiative because of the government's inappropriate step toward antidumping law which is hurting the business of country's manufactureres.
