Good winds blowing from Brazil: Atlantic Renewable Energies is investing in the country's sustainable development
With wind projects in four different Brazilian states
(Bahia, Piaui, Rio Grande do Norte and Rio Grande do Sul), Atlantic Renewable
Energies stands out among companies in the wind power sector as an enterprise
whose foundations are inseparable from the business strategy comprising its
sustainable core: environmental concern, corporate governance, health and
safety.
The company invests on sustainable development, in projects
that help communities in the surroundings of its wind farms, located in areas
where HDI (Human Development Index) is often low.
In recognition of its sustainable credentials, Atlantic has
received the Renewable Energy Certification, audited by ABS Consulting and
granted by the Totum Institute (Instituto Totum) to enterprises that use
renewable energy sources and cutting-edge technology with a high level of
environmental, social and economic performance.
Using this as a point of departure, the company has created
the AmbientAR Cycle (Ciclo AmbientAR), through which other organizations can
buy Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). Part of the amount invested goes to
communities in the surroundings of the wind farms. It is a way of enhancing the
value of the company, the brands that invests in sustainability and the
renewable energy market as a whole.
Varieties of programs focusing on social, environmental and
economic development comprise part of the company's strategy. These are
investments in education, raising awareness, oversight and mitigation of
environmental impacts at all of its complexes and wind farms.
The project "Sowers of the Winds" (Sementeiros dos
Ventos) is an example of the activities conducted with communities. It
stimulates residents to create banks of native seeds produced by family
farmers, and promotes the preservation of the ecosystem in Bahia's Campo
Formoso region, where Morrinhos Wind Power Complex is located.
Recognizing the importance of education for sustainable
development, Atlantic is supporting the Joao Paulo II Educational Center
(Centro Educacional João Paulo II) and taking part in recreational and
educational activities, aiming to foster environmental awareness and
citizenship among children.
Another key action is the sponsorship of Gladiadores Quad
Rugby, a traditional wheel chair rugby team based in Curitiba, home to
Atlantic's headquarters.
Sharing sustainability and providing clean and reliable energy,
Atlantic has a business model with a high level of security and profitability,
upholding its commitment to Brazil's environmental, social and economic
development.
